Who writes the content
Every guide on MOT Decoded is published under my name, Bilal, a mobile mechanic working in South Wales. You can read more about me on the about page.
How the guides are written and checked
- Rules come from official sources. Anything about what passes or fails an MOT is checked against the MOT inspection manual and GOV.UK, and linked where it's quoted.
- Costs are ranges, not quotes. Repair prices are typical ranges for parts and labour at an independent garage. Where published UK price data exists, I check the ranges against it and name the source.
- Experience over padding. Each guide answers the question you have after reading your MOT. Then it stops. No word counts to hit.
- AI tools. I use AI writing tools to help draft and structure some content. Every page is reviewed, fact-checked against the sources above and edited before it goes live, and I'm responsible for what's published.
Updates and corrections
MOT rules change. So do prices, sometimes quite quickly when parts costs move, which is why the cost ranges get reviewed regularly rather than written once and forgotten. Each guide shows the date it was last updated, and I change that date only when the content has actually changed.
If you spot a mistake, email contact@motdecoded.co.uk. Corrections are made as quickly as possible, and significant ones are noted on the page.
Advertising
Once approved, the site will show Google AdSense adverts. Advertisers have no say in what's written here, and adverts are kept clearly separate from the content. If a page ever includes an affiliate or sponsored link, it'll be labelled.
Disclaimer
The information on this site is general guidance for UK drivers. It isn't a diagnosis of your vehicle and it isn't professional advice for your specific situation.
- MOT Decoded has no connection with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), GOV.UK or any MOT test centre.
- The decoder matches wording, not cars. It can't see the condition of your vehicle and it can get things wrong.
- Repair costs are estimates for budgeting only. Always get a quote from a garage that has inspected the car.
- Your MOT tester's findings and a qualified mechanic's assessment always take priority over anything on this site.
- If you work on your own car, you do so at your own risk. Brakes, steering, suspension and tyres are safety-critical. If you're not confident, use a garage.
