Using the decoder and guides

The decoder and guides are free to use for your own, non-commercial purposes. You're welcome to share links to any page.

Please don't copy guides or the advisory library to republish elsewhere, scrape the site, or try to interfere with how it works. Short quotes with a link back are fine.

Information, not a diagnosis

Everything on MOT Decoded is general information. The decoder matches the words on your MOT against a library of common wording. It doesn't see your car, it can't diagnose a fault, and it can make mistakes.

  • Repair costs are estimates for guidance only, not quotes.
  • Your MOT tester's findings, and the advice of a mechanic who has inspected the car, always come first.
  • MOT Decoded isn't affiliated with the DVSA, GOV.UK or any test centre.

I work to keep the site accurate and available, but I can't guarantee it'll always be error-free or online. To the extent the law allows, I'm not liable for any loss arising from using the site or relying on its content. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that can't be excluded by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Guides link to other sites, mostly GOV.UK. I'm not responsible for their content.
