Privacy and cookies policy
This policy explains what personal information MOT Decoded collects, why, and what your rights are. MOT Decoded is run by Bilal (Shipra Automotives), who is the data controller. You can contact me about anything in this policy at contact@motdecoded.co.uk.
The short version
- The MOT decoder runs entirely in your browser. What you paste into it is never sent to me or stored.
- If you email me or use the contact form, I use your name and email only to reply.
- Right now the site doesn't set advertising or analytics cookies. If that changes, you'll be asked for consent first, and this page will be updated.
The MOT decoder
When you paste MOT text into the decoder, it's processed by JavaScript running on your own device. It isn't uploaded, logged or saved, and it disappears when you close or refresh the page. I can't see what you paste.
Contact form and email
If you contact me, I receive your name, email address and whatever you write. I use this only to read and reply to your message, and to improve the site if you've sent a correction or new MOT wording. The legal basis is legitimate interests: replying to a message you chose to send.
Messages are kept for up to 12 months and then deleted, unless there's an ongoing conversation. They're stored with the site's email provider. I don't sell, share or use them for marketing.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted by Hostinger. Like almost every web host, their servers automatically keep short-term technical logs, which can include your IP address and the pages requested. These are used to keep the site running and secure, and are handled by Hostinger under their own privacy policy.
The site loads fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google's servers to download them. Google receives your IP address as part of that request.
Cookies
At the moment MOT Decoded doesn't set any cookies of its own and doesn't use analytics.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
I plan to show adverts through Google AdSense. When that starts:
- Google and its partners will use cookies or similar technologies to show adverts, measure them, and, if you agree, personalise them based on your visits to this and other websites.
- Visitors in the UK will see a consent message, provided through a Google-certified consent management platform, before any non-essential advertising cookies are set. You can accept, reject or choose specific purposes, and change your mind later.
- You can read how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and manage personalised advertising at Google's Ad Settings.
This page will be updated with the full list of cookies when adverts are switched on.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data I hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how it's used, and to complain. To make a request, email contact@motdecoded.co.uk.
If you're not happy with how I've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
This site is aimed at drivers and isn't designed for children. I don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
